Real Talk

Dame Yung was dreamt up as the sister brand of Sir Harold. Having realised the positive impact that can be made from a small printing setup from a backyard shed, we thought creating something a bit different that can also inspire change and grow that community even more could only be a good thing. Before going into some of the things that Dame Yung is about, it needs to be acknowledged that we understand the clothing and textile industry contributes largely to the environmental issues that we face. There is no denying this fact. Whilst we screen print and sew by hand in our own backyard where possible, the garments we create our designs on, are from overseas factories and therefore are somewhat contributing to this issue. This is something that as creatives-turn-small-business-owners/what-the-hell-are-we-doing-duo, are constantly trying to improve and educate ourselves on. A few things that we do to lessen our footprint and contribution to waste are:

  • Make to order. Every garment is made only once ordered. Whilst this means a slightly longer wait time (1-2 weeks) this is to avoid any wasted excess stock and can ensure that we are only ordering what is needed, as such, garments will never go on sale.
  • Release designs in limited-edition runs. This isn't about creating hype but rather to encourage the value and care taken for the garments purchased as they aren't always available. We're also running a two-person show and everything is printed by hand therefore we want to create less to take more care with each garment and enjoy the process.
  • Create things that aren't 'trend-driven' but rather have been plucked from the depths of our imagination. Whilst this can result in some often random AF things, we want to encourage avoiding fast fashion and we hope if you're buying our stuff, you plan to own it for a very long time and if not, that you move it on responsibly. (More info on how to recycle or reuse clothing)
  • Reuse any faulty (a.k.a the stuff ups) garments that are beyond salvaging as rags for our printing.
  • Work with legendary suppliers that are transparent about where their garments are made such as AS Colour and Gildan.
  • Use biodegradable bags for posting all customer orders.
  • Partner with i=Change to donate $1 from every sale to one of three charities we have chosen. These are:
'$1.50 pays for a day of high quality education for a girl in a Calcutta slum. In the male-dominated slums of Calcutta, girls come second in every way. They are rarely sent to school, and often end up forced into child marriages, child labor or sex trafficking. Even for families who do want schooling for their girls, a decent education is unaffordable. By providing education and academic tutoring, Her Future Coalition ensures that girls have the chance of breaking the cycle of poverty and exploitation by getting a quality education. Our commitment to these girls is long term. Many of the girls who begin our programs as young children have gone on to college, and are now empowered to transform their families and communities from within.
Note: To ensure greatest impact, donations are sent to Her Future to support this and other related projects. This allows them to use their expertise to direct resources to be as effective as possible.'
'$50 plants enough trees and shrubs to store 1 tonne of carbon dioxide. Since European settlement, over 90 million hectares of land across Australia has been cleared, threatening species and the productivity of farmlands. Climate change will only exacerbate the impact with reduced rainfall, increased temperatures, droughts and more frequent extreme weather events. Greening Australia aims to restore 330,000 hectares of native trees across Australia by 2030. Drawing on the expert input of Traditional Owners, scientists and local land managers, we will plant 500 million trees and shrubs to store carbon, create quality habitat for native wildlife, and restore degraded farmland. These 500 million trees and shrubs will absorb over 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2030, and reduce atmospheric carbon pollution. This is one of the world’s largest and most ambitious ecological restoration programs.
Note: To ensure greatest impact, donations are sent to Greening Australia to support this and other related projects. This allows them to use their expertise to direct resources to be as effective as possible.'
'$5 enables 50 women to participate in a meeting hosted by trained women leaders, held in safe spaces at the homes of village women, to discuss and learn about critical issues affecting them and their communities, like ending child marriage.' The Hunger Project

    SHIPPING

Shipping is via Australia Post and is charged at the flat rate of $10 for orders under $80. For orders over $80, shipping is free! You will receive tracking on your order as soon as it has been shipped. We also offer free local delivery for the 3444 postcode!

    LEAD TIME

As everything is made to order, it can be 1-2 weeks until you receive your item. We process, print, stitch and package orders as fast as we can but we are a small setup so please be patient with us.

    RETURNS

We do offer returns for an exchange or refund, provided that the garment hasn't been worn.

Each garment is printed and labelled by hand and may contain their own 'quirks'. This is because we are real humans printing cool things and therefore, each item is unique and not exactly the same. If there are any 'quirks' with your garment, it's either because we were watching Bridgerton or Emily in Paris whilst sewing or drank too many drinks whilst printing (in which case, email us) however we do check everything via our quality control officer (which is also us) and if it's passed that screening...then it's assumed she'llberight. Ultimately, do not purchase if you are expecting a perfect garment.
